City of Mercer Island and Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce launch “MInext”, a Community-Wide Marketing Campaign to Support Local Businesses

Discover your next Mercer Island experience while supporting the local businesses that make the Island a great place to live, play, and enjoy.

Mercer Island, WA October 23rd, 2020 -- The City of Mercer Island and the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce are excited to announce MInext, a new marketing campaign designed to bring Mercer Island businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen connections between local businesses and Mercer Island residents. Funded by grants received from the Port of Seattle and King County, MInext launches November 1 and will extend into early 2021.

“What will be your next meal? Your next workout? Your next financial planning session? MInext invites Islanders to discover their next Mercer Island experience while supporting the local businesses that make the Island a great place to live, play, and experience,” says Sarah Bluvas, the Small Business Liaison in the City’s Emergency Operations Center.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to test the strength and resiliency of the community, MInext encourages Islanders to look inward, learn more about the businesses in their own backyard, and give them a boost during this difficult time.

“Over the past few months, small businesses have been forced to adapt and sometimes rethink their entire plans, we thought bringing forward the human aspect and feature who are the owners “behind the masks” and tell their stories was key to re-engage the community and business owners” said Laurent Bourscheidt and Suzanne Zahr, creative director and strategists behind the campaign.

A new website, www.mercerislandnext.com, will feature videos and articles about local businesses so community members can get to know the people and stories behind the businesses. Island residents will also have the opportunity to play MInGO, the MInext take on BINGO, and win prizes while supporting their local businesses.

Thanks to the grant funding received by the City, businesses will also be able to participate in and benefit from MInext at no cost to them. When businesses become MInext Ambassadors, they receive promotional materials for their storefront and gain access to downloadable marketing materials. MInext Ambassadors will also be featured on the website and included in local and off-Island advertising efforts. More benefits for local businesses are also in the works.

MInext is coordinated by the City of Mercer Island and the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce in partnership with local consultants L+B Design and Suzanne Zahr. The campaign is funded by the Port of Seattle Economic Development Partnership grant program and the King County Coronavirus Relief Fund Economic Development for Cities program. Businesses can learn more and join the campaign by contacting Sarah Bluvas at sarah.bluvas@mercerisland.gov or visiting www.mercerislandnext.com
